Bucher-Alimentech Ltd

Bucher Guyer AG acquired New Zealand company “Alimentech” in 1996. The company has expertise in ion-exchange and adsorptive polymer systems for the treatment of liquid foods, such as juices. The technology of most interest was for removing colour and haze from apple juice, but other key technologies are used to reduce bitterness from citrus juices, or make by-products from waste fruit materials. In 2013 the technology was successfully transferred to head office in Niederweningen, where the machinery is now built. However, Bucher-Alimentech still produces machinery for the Americas and Australia, as they have unique requirements, and we also provide service, support, spares and consumables.

Also, from 2013 onwards, the office’s focus was reoriented to developing the market for Bucher Unipektin products in the Asia Pacific region. This includes developing agency relationships in South-East Asia, where having locals on the ground is vital. In Australia and New Zealand, however, customers and their opportunities are handled directly by the team here in Auckland.

Focus on adaptation

Because of the quite extensive food industry in Australia and New Zealand, there are plenty of potential opportunities in this part of the world, but they require innovation, adaptation and persistence.

We are currently applying BU’s technologies to local firms that work in nutraceutical, dairy, vegetables, fruit, seafood, meats, and extracts, etc.
